After a lackluster performance against Joseph Parker in Saudi Arabia, Deontay Wilder‘s anticipated bout against Anthony Joshua appears to be in jeopardy. The two heavyweights, Wilder and Parker, clashed on Saturday night. Notably, Wilder’s hopes of securing a knockout victory were dashed as he struggled against a cold and calculated Joseph Parker.

Parker emerged victorious, landing 35 punches in the first six rounds compared to Wilder’s 16. In the end, Wilder lost by unanimous decision. So, the performance of ‘Bronze Bomber’ wasn’t up to the expected standards, but he was still gracious about the defeat.

Deontay Wilder accepted his defeat quite well

Following his defeat to Joseph Parker, Deontay Wilder displayed great sportsmanship in his post-fight interview. He acknowledged that his timing was off and credited Parker for a job well done. He made no excuses for the loss. When questioned about the potential distraction of the talk surrounding a fight with Anthony Joshua, Wilder admitted it played a role.

Despite the setback, he affirmed his warrior spirit, assuring fans of his imminent return to the ring. Furthermore, when asked whether his inactivity in the ring played a role in his loss, he replied, “It could have. But we’re not gonna base it off on that. We’re just gonna go in, we did what we did and we’ll move on to the next, you know what I mean. We’ll live to see another day, and that’s what it’s all about. I’m just ready to go home to my children, you know what I mean.

Wilder has talked about moving on to the next best thing available for him. However, it seems that he wouldn’t be getting offered the Anthony Joshua fight. It has already been well-established by Joshua’s promoter.

Eddie Hearn doesn’t think Wilder is the “future”

Anthony Joshua fulfilled his part to get the anticipated showdown with Deontay Wilder. He secured victory in what was essentially a semi-final against Otto Wallin before the final showdown with Wilder. However, the hopes for a lucrative two-fight deal worth $100 million were dashed for Joshua. The British heavyweight comfortably handled the situation with Wallin’s corner pulling the Swedish southpaw out before the sixth round. Demonstrating total control, Joshua inflicted damage on Wallin twice in the fifth round.

Meanwhile, Wilder displayed a disappointing performance for fans all over the world. So much so that even Eddie Hearn took the offer back from Wilder. He said, “I said in the build-up I don’t rate him. Wilder had no idea, no clue. He lost 120-108, lost every round, and he’s there at the end putting his hand up saying he’s won the fight.” Hearn believes this was one of the most one-sided matchups in boxing history.

He also mentioned, “It’s ruined our plans [for the Anthony Joshua fight]. We’ve got to go back into the changing room and let Joshua know Wilder has just lost to Parker. The future is not Deontay Wilder.” So, the Matchroom Boxing CEO has lost all hope from the anticipated bout between Joshua vs. Wilder. Now the time will tell whether the fans and fighters feel the same or not. What are your thoughts about this? Let us know in the comments section.
