Teofimo Lopez has had an eventful year. In June, he challenged Josh Taylor for the super-lightweight. Although the odds were stacked against him, the 26-year-old triumphed and won via a unanimous decision. However, this was not the most startling part. After the bout, Lopez announced his retirement and called it a day from competitive boxing. However, the boxer has since walked back on the retirement; he has yet to face another opponent since his June bout.

The lesser-known side of Lopez

Lopez has been in the spotlight for many years. However, many solely know him in the capacity of a boxer. However, recently, the boxer had the time to unveil the lesser-known side of his life. In a recent episode of the Jaxxon podcast, he revealed that he is primarily Spanish and Honduran.

Reflecting on the same, in the interview, He stated, “Teofimo is an interesting name though at the same time as I said, it is bred from Spain, my great grandfather,” when asked if he was Spanish, he stated, “So, I am Spain and Honduran.” He added, “Name is different, it is unique. Not many people have it. It is only three in the world now – my father, me, and my son.”

When the topic of his name was brought up, Rampage Jackson asked if the word ‘Tio’ meant uncle. To this, the light welterweight replied, “Ya.” In addition, he revealed that his name has different meanings depending on the country and region. Moreover, he added that he takes pride in his name since it is a unique name.

Is Teofimo Lopez Hall of Fame worthy?

To say Lopez had a successful career would be an understatement. After 20 professional bouts, the boxer had an impressive record of 19 wins, with only one defeat. Subsequently, in an interview with the boxing scene, he asserted that he is. He stated, “Teofimo is a Hall of Famer no doubt. Two-time undisputed world champion, 25 years young, two divisional world champion, two-time lineal world champion.” It is safe to say that the boxer is not short of confidence and self-belief.
