Ahead of his title fight, Teofimo Lopez is spending some time with his mentor and promoter, Oscar De La Hoya. The two share a close bond and have stood thick and thin with each new approaching fight. This time, the American boxer has a challenge in Jamaine Ortiz, who will try to snatch his WBO title on February 8 at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas. But before the showdown goes to the wire, the champion has poured light on his bond with his ‘master’.
Notably, ‘The Takeover’ is coming off a remarkable win against Josh Taylor and also a retirement drama. However, he now remains focused on the next challenge that Oscar De La Hoya has planned for him. While the fight is still a week away, the WBO light-welterweight champion was spotted sharing some moments with his mentor.

Teofimo Lopez and ‘Obi-wan’ De La Hoya
The 26-year-old recently turned to his social media handle and shared an image of De La Hoya hosting his boxer. Both can be seen entering De La Hoya’s house, with the American promoter showing off his boxing heritage to Lopez. That included his expensive and tailored fight robes, shiny medals, and gold traps. Inspired by the shine of the legacy, Lopez drew parallels with Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

“Luke Skywalker & Obi-wan Kenobi 🥇🥊7-Days Away | Feb. 8th @mandalaybay,” Lopez wrote in the caption.
The 19-1 record holder is still keen to learn from his master and has immense respect for him. When De La Hoya got caught up in Rolando Romero‘s scathing remarks, he backed up De La Hoya. He stood up for De La Hoya, and after sharing a sparring video with Rolly Romero, Lopez announced, “Don’t worry if it comes to it I’ll handle this fake champ like I did back in 2017.” This gesture touched Oscar De La Hoya’s heart.

“Thanks [Teofimo Lopez,] it’s all good brother. You have these young kids who have no idea what a legend is or how to be one,” De La Hoya declared. This chaos ensued after he announced that Rolly Romero had priced himself out of the Ryan Garcia fight.
