Most fans are well aware of Deontay Wilder‘s multifaceted skill set. Last year, before the leap forward to the final Tyson Fury fight, fans came across ‘Everytime,‘ his debut single. His potential participation in mixed martial arts has been the subject of various talks for some time now. Just when the fans are still dwelling over the reports, comes another whammy of news. The former heavyweight champion seems to have taken a liking to the Power Slap contest now.

The Tuscaloosa, Alabama-born heavyweight reportedly contemplates a career in the latest arrival into the combat sports world. Speaking to noted boxing reporter and YouTuber Elie Seckbach, Wilder shared some of his thoughts on slap fighting. Later, he also spoke about the owner of the championship, who is also the chief executive officer of the UFC, Dana White.

Deontay Wilder: Gloves off to Slap Fest

Two weeks ago, Deontay Wilder was at a Power Slap show in Las Vegas. Later, he shared clips of one of the knockouts through his Instagram handle. He said, “Live and in person yo this is different, and I think I got a career in it.

So Elie Seckbach of ES News asked, “Hey De, what’s the chance that we’ve seen you in the slap contest? I know you went to check it out. If you slap someone, I think the head is flying to the sixth row.” Deontay Wilder replied, “That s**t takes technique, though.” Even his trainer, Malik Scott, sitting beside him, nodded in agreement and added how participants slapped by forming cuffs with their palms.

‘The Bronze Bomber’ continued, “Get that palm. That palm will really get it. And it is a trick too, somehow holding on to it, like the one that receives it; you can’t do it, but you can do it. And I saw one of the big guys do it, but they let one another guy get another chance… But he did the same thing, but all it takes is one chance. Like I already be first.” The Seckbach switched topics to Dana White and asked the former champion whether he’s onto a deal with the promotion.

Wilder said, “I’ll do it. I’ll do it. And I’m going first. That s**t be crazy.” Elie Seckbach checked with him about Dana White and whether he has had any general discussions with the UFC CEO. The former champion replied that he’s always had a conversation with him whenever they meet: “We got some things going, man. Got some conversations going and stuff like that.

Clearly, with the multi-talented personality that he has, Deontay Wilder won’t disappoint the fans.

Near-home misses for ‘The Bronze Bomber’

Otherwise, as far as the ring is concerned, discussion about bringing about the Anthony Joshua fight appears to have been on hold. Wilder, who was on a holiday recently, even personally called out his British heavyweight rival to get the fight going. On October 15, 2022, over a year after the trilogy bout with Tyson Fury, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ knocked out his former sparring partner Robert Helenius in the very first round.

This year, he called out Francis Ngannou for boxing and an MMA match. However, it headed nowhere. Later, an all-American duel with Andy Ruiz Jr. also came up. But sadly, the talks fizzled out because of disagreements over the purse. The first talks for the Anthony Joshua fight cropped up in 2018. Hence, five years are already over. At least by next year, one of the biggest heavyweight grudge matches should come to a logical end.
