As reported by Sports Business Journal, streaming giant Netflix has made another groundbreaking move. Netflix has reportedly expressed interest in broadcasting games from the NBA’s new In-Season Tournament. This development would revolutionize the way we consume sports. It would bring live games directly into the living rooms of millions of Netflix subscribers.
Netflix’s potential involvement in the NBA represents a significant shift in the sports broadcasting landscape. Traditionally, the league has heavily relied on cable and satellite TV providers. For a long time, Netflix has avoided any advertisement-heavy content on the platform until a significant subscriber drop last year. Their major competitors, Amazon and Apple, have made a successful entry into live sports. That has prompted the company to make changes and be willing to enter the ad-heavy market when necessary.
The report by SBJ also notes that it is still unclear if Netflix is making a serious bid. However, if there is any indication, the NBA league is expanding the IN-season tournament on its own. The NBA said that they are interested in acquiring five partners in the new media deal.
