Anthony Davis is officially sidelined for the Hawks game. And Darvin Ham has made a surprising game-time decision on the starting five. He opted to let Jaxson Hayes start in Davis’ place and it has got everyone confounded. The Lakers reserve big man, Christian Wood, himself seems to be at a loss for words as he takes to X to comment on it with just one word.
Having Christian star in the starting five that struggles with shooting would make more sense. But it is ultimately the Coach’s decision. But that doesn’t have to sit well with Wood. He posted, “Lol,” and left it at that.

Wood doesn’t have to elaborate. His situation is hilarious enough to warrant a ‘lol’. The fact that he is averaging pretty decent numbers also makes it all the more frustrating. Take a look at Wood’s stats in the per 36 minutes format. The 6’8 forward is averaging 14.2 points, 1.4 blocks, and 10.6 rebounds on 47.1% shooting from the field and 31.6% from the three-point line.
Hayes, while a 7-foot center, is averaging 11.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per 36 minutes. He has yet to make a three-pointer. Although Wood didn’t start the game, it wasn’t long before he took the floor. In 15 minutes of game time (at the time of writing), Christian had seven points, two assists, and seven rebounds. And the Hawks were leading by 17 points in the third quarter (103-86).

On a different note, it seems like while AD’s injury might have given quite a scare, it hasn’t eliminated him completely from the game.
Anthony Davis sidelined in the wake of Houston injury scare
When ‘The Brow’ was confirmed to have to sit out the entire fourth quarter in the Rockets game, the Lakers fans lost the last thread of hope they desperately held on to. Post-game, AD revealed that his groin injury flared up in the second half enough to limit him from working his magic on both ends of the floor.

That was the hammer-dropping moment. His susceptibility to injuries has evaded Davis for the major part of this season. But tonight is just the third game he’s missed this season. Hopefully, all he needs is some rest. Losing their best center in the midst of a struggling period will not have the best turnaround.
