All eyes were on Bronny James, the son of the NBA’s scoring leader, who set foot in college basketball today. Coming back from a cardiac arrest, the 19-year-old has already shown us how determined he is. The hype around Bronny seems unparalleled, though it’s not the first time the son of a basketball icon had the attention of the basketball world.
Nearly 15 years back, Michael Jordan’s son Marcus made his debut for the University of Central Florida and he was the talk of the town. While everyone’s focus is on Bronny James’s debut, let’s take a look at what Marcus Jordan did in college.

Bronny had a difficult debut today. 4 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists in 16 minutes, but most importantly, a loss. However, this is just his first game after he suffered a cardiac arrest back in August. There’s time and scope for the younger James to improve.
In Michael Jordan‘s case, not one, but both of his sons, Marcus and Jeffery, played college basketball for Central Florida in 2010. It might seem like 32-year-old Marcus Jordan had nothing to do with basketball, considering his lifestyle now. Yet, according to many, he was a true baller.
Marcus Jordan made his debut in 2009, for the UCF Golden Knights. His first game was against UMass, where the Knights secured a big win. However, Marcus had a poor game. 11 minutes on the court, the Chicago Bulls legend’s son couldn’t score a point. He had three turnovers as well!

Anyhow, Jordan improved later in the tournament. In the 2009-10 season, Jordan averaged 8 points per game. Surprisingly, he became UCF’s highest scorer the next season.

Marcus Jordan shined bright in college, but not for a long time
It would take an eternity to create another Michael Jordan, but for some time, hoop fans were happy to see that the 6x NBA champion had a son who could ball. Marcus was a 6’3 shooting guard, just like his dad, but a lefty. His high point in college basketball was when he led UCF to a 14-game winning streak in December 2010.
With a 19-10 record in the regular season, Marcus and UCF advanced to the playoffs. Averaging 15.2 points, young Jordan led UCF all the way to the Semi-Finals in 2010. Sadly, an 18-point loss ended his impeccable run in the semis. Later in 2011, he stepped away from basketball in his senior year. After trying his best to make it to the NBA, Marcus gave up on the sport once and for all.
