Crypto Arena saw some highs and lows on February 4th, 2024. Atlanta rapper Killer Mike had a clean sweep at the 2024 Grammys. The 48-year-old won three awards that night including the prestigious best rap album award. However, right after having the biggest moment of his career, brakes were put on the celebrations as a clip of the rapper in handcuffs went viral.
In the viral video, Michael Santiago Render, AKA Killer Mike, could be seen being escorted out of the venue by law enforcement and fans were left scratching their heads as there was no update on the story for a while. Recently, NBA legends Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson talked about the iconic moment that Killer Mike had that night and it unfortunately ending with him in handcuffs.
Former Los Angeles Laker, Matt Barnes expressed his view on what happened to the 4x Grammy Award Winner after the show, “Unfortunately, and I think it’s still a developing story, but he ends up being taken away in handcuffs.” The 2017 NBA champion added that while it was the biggest night of his life so far, the visuals of him being taken away in handcuffs left a sour taste for his fans.

Barnes argued about how people find a way to tarnish someone’s biggest moment and how heartbreaking it was to see the situation unfold. “We know about him, he’s always been a solid dude…I just didn’t like the image of him getting three Grammys, clean sweep, and then them taking away in handcuffs. It just, it didn’t sit right with my spirit.” Despite whatever happened at the ceremony, the former NBA players believe only what they know of their friend. “Prayers big OG and congratulations obviously”, he added.
But what exactly happened that night? Killer Mike’s team would later explain “We experienced an over-zealous security guard but my team and I have the upmost confidence that I will ultimately be cleared of all wrongdoing.” Clearly, his friend’s Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson were already in the know.

The two veterans of the game were elated because their friend bagged three Grammys. “Mike is a solid guy. It couldn’t have happened to a better person man”, Jackson added. Killer Mike told an Atlanta-based radio show, “We hit a speed bump and then we head back to the party, man. We partied all night. Ain’t nothing had happened, man. But we winners. That’s it”. These were his first comments after being released.
