This recent edition of SmackDown started off with the “Phenomenal One” AJ Styles taking to the ring. Fans have been waiting for Styles to address the crowd since his return during last week’s episode. After taking out Roman Reigns and LA Knight, he had something to confess tonight.
This confession led to the announcement of a massive star-studded match for the SmackDown New Year’s Revolution episode.

Taking to the ring, Styles announced that he wanted Reigns despite Knight and Randy Orton wanting The Tribal Chief as well. However, this led to a confrontation between all three men regarding who gets to take on Reigns first. To calm the squabble, SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis announced a triple threat match at SmackDown’s New Year’s Revolution on January 5, 2024.
This comes as big news for Styles and Orton fans. While Knight helped out John Cena at FastLane and faced Reigns at Crown Jewel, Orton, and Styles haven’t had a substantial match yet. Orton returned at WarGames and had a match with Dominik Mysterio and Jimmy Uso. Styles faced Solo Sikoa on tonight’s episode. This match will be the first big match for both men since their return.

The winner of this match will face Roman Reigns at the Royal Rumble 2024. This could be the opportunity that each of the three men has been waiting for to get a chance to dethrone Reigns finally.
The Bloodline has been responsible for losses that all three men suffered. Orton was injured during a tag team match for the title against Jimmy and Jey Uso. This resulted in him being shelved for 18 months. Styles was taken out by Jimmy and Sikoa ahead of FastLane so that he could not assist Cena in their match.

Will the #1 contender beat The Tribal Chief Reigns?
Before wondering who will be booked to win the triple-threat match, fans have already started predicting whether Reigns will retain or lose the title. According to speculation online, Reigns may lose the title and the leadership of The Bloodline. He announced Sikoa as the heir to the throne during last week’s episode.
During this episode, Nick Aldis claimed Sikoa was better than Reigns as he put down Cena better than The Tribal Chief did. Losing the WWE Universal title will reduce the power and influence Reigns has, leading to a mutiny within the group. This may see Reigns betting kicked out of The Bloodline.
