Khabib Nurmagomedov is the current UFC lightweight champion. He is undefeated and has recorded 28 wins under his name. He is known to talk the talk and back it up with scintillating displays inside the octagon. However, a former UFC fighter feels that he might be doing a little too much talking at the moment.

Retired MMA fighter and ESPN analyst Chael Sonnen broke down Nurmagomedov’s recent demands. He believed that everything ‘The Eagle’ has said about his next probable opponent after his UFC 254 fight against Justin Gaethje doesn’t seem to add up.
Sonnen thinks Khabib is now talking more than he ever has and is afraid that he might not be able to back it up on October 24. Fans know Khabib as a man of his word, but Sonnen thinks the idea may be in jeopardy.

On a recent episode of Beyond The Fight, Sonnen addressed these concerns. He said, “Khabib is starting to push the envelope a little bit. He hasn’t done anything wrong, but I’m fearing that he is about to. Backup–Khabib is a man of his word, he is an extreme believer in principle. He is a very principled guy in his life and he carries that life over into his career. Great! We love that about him and we get it.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov might have gone a few words too far!
Chael Sonnen continued, “Here is where things are starting to get slippery. He is starting to say too much. He is starting to make too many statements and as a guy that always does what he says he will do and he has only two or three things, that’s a very honorable code. But when he is coming out and is put in a position where he is asked to say a lot of things and he is, he is starting to put all sorts of conditions on who, what, when, and where.”

The former fighter spoke about the conditions Khabib has laid down in terms of who might be his next opponent. ‘The Eagle’ wants a fight against Georges St-Pierre. He has also broached upon potential fights against Tony Ferguson, Conor McGregor, and Dustin Poirier.

Finally, ‘The American Gangster’ addressed his main concern. He said, “But if we were to take a principle man at his word, then we are to believe that if you were to beat Dustin Poirier, you get him next. Or if you are Dustin Poirier and you beat whoever you have next, you get Khabib. Khabib is now coming out and saying that he will not honor the result of the fight between Conor and Poirier unless the fight is contested at 155 lbs.”

He concluded, “Where I say this is a slippery slope, you are the champion of the world. You fight anybody that you’re asked to fight. That is how the sport work. If you don’t like it go and do a line bracket or go into retirement. “
Chael Sonnen is worried that Khabib might succumb to the weight of his own words and in turn hamper his reputation of ‘the man of his words’. What is your opinion? Will Khabib Nurmagomedov back his words on Saturday?
