After reclaiming the towel,  JasminePaolini walked over and handed it to another fan. Then she signed more tennis souvenirs, cool as ever! It seemed like a first for the Italian. Even though she had just knocked out a hometown star, Paolini’s post-match interview turned into a celebration. “They’re cheering for you,” the interviewer said midway through their chat. “You have a lot of fans in China.”

Paolini glanced over at the section of the crowd that had cheered for her from the very first point. With a bright smile, she replied, “Xiè xiè.” Then, pointing to an excited fan, she declared, “For you, I’m going to give you a towel now.” She dashed to her seat, grabbed a towel, and sprinted back across the court to hand it over—what a way to thank her supporters.

The Italian also spoke about the challenge of facing a home favorite. “It’s not easy to play a Chinese player in China, but the atmosphere was great, a lot of people,” Paolini said. “It’s really good to have fans here, I’m really happy to be playing here in Wuhan.” Isn’t that just adorable?
