Charles Leclerc endured a pretty tough 2019 Japanese Grand Prix. He had a poor start, clipped Verstappen and as a result broke his wing. He later refused to pit at the right time sending debris all across the track and especially towards Lewis Hamilton trailing behind. However the driver looked in a reasonably good mood after the race flying back from Suzuka alongside the super fun Daniel Ricciardo.

Flying back together, earlier Daniel Ricciardo posted on his Instagram profile of an embarrassed Charles Leclerc who was seen coming out of the in flight washroom. Ricciardo was heard in the video asking Leclerc what business he was upto there. Super fun to watch:

The 2019 Japanese Grand Prix was a happy affair for Daniel Ricciardo though. He started P17, having missed out on Q2 even. He gained multiple places through the race and ended up on P7 with Renault getting a double points finish with Nico Hulkenberg finishing P10.

Leclerc and Verstappen’s incident was to be investigated after the race by the stewards. Very soon post the race Leclerc was handed a 15s time penalty: 5s time penalty for the incident and a 10s time penalty for driving his broken Ferrari and spreading debris everywhere. This promoted Daniel Ricciardo to P6. Seemed like a small penalty for Leclerc especially since his broken debris could have caused a disaster if not for Lewis Hamilton’s Halo.
Meanwhile Renault seems to be in a messy situation with Racing Point having lodged a pretty detailed complaint – a massive 12 page detail report. If found true, Renault could be stripped off their results from multiple races, but both teams and the FIA have some time to make up their case.
