Conor McGregor will finally return to the octagon at UFC 246 against Donald Cerrone. The fight will mark Conor’s return to the welterweight and his third fight at the division. However, Cerrone will have a significant edge over McGregor due to the former champion’s lack of experience at 170.

McGregor is coming off a loss against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 for the UFC lightweight championship. In a shocking turn of events, Khabib remained undefeated as he handed Conor his second loss in UFC. However, it was Conor’s first loss at lightweight.

Nate Diaz submitted McGregor at UFC 196 and pulled off the biggest upset of UFC back in 2016. Conor bounced back stronger at a weight that did not come naturally to his body. He picked up a victory against Nate Diaz at UFC 202 via majority decision. In doing so, he reclaimed his position as the biggest UFC star. McGregor would then go on to defeat Eddie Alvarez for the UFC lightweight championship. In doing so, he became the first UFC fighter to hold title belts in two divisions simultaneously.

McGregor comes back stronger

Conor’s performance against Nate Diaz just after three months into his first loss at UFC 202, is regarded as one of the best fights in the history of UFC. He came back stronger and much more focused after suffering his first loss. Coach Kavanagh recently appeared for an interview with TheMacLife and mentioned how Conor looks much more focused than Diaz rematch, for his upcoming fight.

“I think this is the best he has ever been. The reason why I am saying this is because of his consistency over the last few months. It is a real return to smiling on the map, enjoying it, having fun. And it’s cliched to say a happy fighter is a dangerous fighter. He just seems really happy with his life, with his training, with the environment we have here. And competing again and having those exchanges and so on and so, I think he is the best we have ever seen.”

What’s next for Conor McGregor?

Conor McGregor will face Donald Cerrone at the welterweight division. If we believe Coach Kavanagh’s words, Conor will be back much stronger and efficient for his return fight.
