After many months, the WTA Tour finally returned and now, there are going to be many events being played. In a couple of days, the US Open is beginning but after that, we will be watching the Italian Open. It is one of the first major clay-court events and many players including Serena Williams are playing.

Italian Open Open 2020: Return Of Top Players

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, many players withdrew from the US Open. However, a lot of them decided to play the Italian Open and that includes Ashleigh Barty and Simona Halep. While Simona already played a professional event in Prague, this is going to be the first time we see Barty and fans are surely looking forward to it. But, that is not all.

Some other players who are returning at the Italian Open are – Reigning champion Karolina Pliskova, 2-time winner Elina Svitolina and World No. 4 Sofia Kenin. In addition to this, Bianca Andreescu is also returning which is great as she has been struggling with injuries for quite a while.

Serena Williams Going For No. 5

One of the greatest players in the history of tennis – Serena Williams has also decided to play the Italian Open. She has won the titles 4 times – 2001, 2013, 2014, and 2016. She is going to be training to win her 5th title there but more importantly, she wants to use the event to prepare for a bigger tournament – the French Open.

The American star has not won the French Open since her amazing 2015 season. She definitely wants to win it again especially since she can achieve another incredible feat – the quadruple Grand Slam. This requires a player to win every Slam 4 times and it is incredibly tough. Completing it would be a great addition to Serena’s already-long list of achievements and hopefully, she will do it when the event starts on September 27th.
