Conor McGregor had a narrow escape from an embarrassing MMA loss without even stepping into the octagon. Not as a fighter, but as a coach! The Irishman’s coaching stint in The Ultimate Fighter 31 against Michael Chandler hasn’t been what he expected. Chandler has been able to dominate in the realm of coaching, with his team winning 7 out of 8 fights.

Now that the quarter-finals of the show are over, it’s time for some unique mixes and matches to finalize the semi-final fights. To discuss the same, UFC President Dana White met with Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler in the recent TUF episode. In their short meeting, they talked about a potential fight for Team McGregor’s only prospect in the competition, Rico DiSciullo.

Conor McGregor, Dana White, and Michael Chandler discuss TUF 31 semi-finals

In the video, both Chandler and McGregor walk in together, neatly dressed for a formal meeting. To get started, White asks the Irishman about his preferences for a semi-final fight for DiSciullo. “Conor, who do you think is the easiest path for Rico? Who would you have him fight?” he asked.

Without thinking much, McGregor names one fighter from Team Chandler that he apparently already had in mind – Timur Valiev. Valiev defeated bantamweight prospect Trevor Wells in the quarter-finals. The fight was a close one, and both the coaches initially felt that the 2-round bout will go to a 3rd round, due to the competition being so close. However, Valiev won the fight via unanimous decision.

Going further into the discussion, White asks ‘Iron Mike’ about who he thinks is the toughest fighter on his team. Interestingly, ‘Iron Mike’ also named Valiev! Clearly, both McGregor and Chandler have polar opposite views about Valiev! However, it seems like both of them, plus Dana White might have come to terms to finalize a semi-final fight – Rico DiSciullo vs Timur Valiev.

Rico DiSciullo’s luxurious ride with ‘The Notorious’

On TUF 31’s 8th episode, McGregor finally got his first victory when his prospect, DiSciullo knocked out Hunter Azure. The Irishman was overwhelmingly happy after this victory, and rightfully so. After the fight, DiSciullo humorously asked ‘The Notorious’ for a ride in his Lamborghini.

Without hesitation, McGregor passed him the keys and let the bantamweight drive his car around. Even DiSciullo himself was surprised at first because he did not expect the Irishman to actually accept his request.
