After a ton of speculations over the last few months, we finally have the answers. Why did Conor McGregor go up to welterweight to fight Donald Cerrone? Is he aiming to create history again by winning the welterweight title? Or is he looking for the super fight with the BMF, Jorge Masvidal? Well, Conor sets the record straight with his recent interview with the MacLife.

It was believed that Conor McGregor went up to welterweight so that he can fight Jorge Masvidal for the BMF title and rightfully so. Conor is very unlikely to fight for the lightweight title as Khabib defends the title in April against Tony Ferguson. And who knows when Conor can get a crack at the lightweight champion if he gets past Donald Cerrone. In that case, a super fight with Masvidal does make sense.

Conor Aims at the Welterweight Title
However, the BMF title and Jorge Masvidal do not seem very intriguing to Conor when compared to the undisputed welterweight title. In fact, after the thrilling battle between Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington, Conor wants to fight for the welterweight title.

“I like that welterweight belt. The welterweight fight that was on the weekend, I like the look of that. I like the look of Kamaru Usman, I like the look of Colby. I am open to all at 170” stated Conor.

Conor McGregor Shrugs Off The Jorge Masvidal Fight
Though Conor is not rejecting the fight against Masvidal other fights seem more appealing to Conor. He mentioned that after Donald Cerrone, he is likely to fight Justin Gaethje if he does not get the title fight.

“I would face Jorge. (But) I am not going to 170 just for Jorge. He has not really got anything. I was not really that happy with how that Bad Motherf***r thing ended. I think it’s unfinished. It was only getting into a good bout I believe. So we were robbed off round 4 and 5 in that bout.”

“The Bad Motherfucker is the silver one, it’s not the best looking belt. I don’t care about that, I am after the gold.”
