Cori Coco Gauff Records The Highest Viewership at Wimbledon 2019 So Far

The 15-year-old qualifier wild card entrant, Cori Coco Gauff had enraptured the Centre Court of Wimbledon yesterday after her third round win. Coco staved off two match points against Polona Hercog and cruised into the fourth round of Wimbledon Championships 2019. 

The American teenage sensation, Coco has not just captivated her home-country and SW19 crowd, her matches are also being followed by the global audience. On a Friday evening, the viewership of Coco’s match peaked.

According to BBC, a total audience of 5.2 million caught sight of her action. The spectator count of Coco’s third round match outnumbered the viewership of Novak Djokovic and Kevin Anderson’s last year’s Wimbledon final by 700,000.

Also, Coco’s third round traction was more than the Centre Court zeal of the 18-time Grand Slam champion, Rafael Nadal’s second-round match against Nick Kyrgios and the Brit, Andy Murray’s comeback match at Wimbledon. Nadal and Murray’s match recorded a viewership of 3.7 million and 3 million respectively.

In her first ever Grand Slam main draw match, the youngest contestant in the draw faced her idol, Venus Williams. Coco’s first-round match had a viewership of 2.1 million. The viewership for Coco’s second round match against Magdalena Rybarikova recorded an audience of 2.4 million.

The Coco’s second round viewership figure is greater than the viewership of second-round matches of World Number one, Novak Djokovic and Britain’s, Kyle Edmund, which were 2.3 million and 2.2 million respectively.

Coco’s second round traction is more than the viewership of Serena Williams‘ opening round match and the defending champion, Angelique Kerber‘s match where she crashed out from the championship. 

Despite, all the former Wimbledon champions were in action, the world opted to enjoy the tennis produced by the 15-year-old, Cori Coco Gauff.

As her fairytale in the lawns of SW19 continue, Cori Coco Gauff will take on the reigning semifinalist, Simona Halep in the pre-quarterfinals of Wimbledon Championships 2019.
