The 15-year-old tennis sensation, Cori “Coco” Gauff revealed that she does not believe in fate and destiny. Cori Gauff feels that neither fate nor destiny will play a role if she conquers the Wimbledon Championships 2019 title.

The American kept her Wimbledon dream alive after saving a match point and defeating the Slovenian, Polona Hercog 3-6, 7-6 (9/7), 7-5 to reach the last-16 of the Championships 2019.

Earlier, she had upset Venus Williams in the first round in straight sets before defeating the grass court specialist, Magdalena Rybarikova in a similar fashion in the second round.

However, Cori Gauff believes that fate and destiny did not play a part in her nail-biting third round match and it was solely her talent which helped her to reach the last-16. She also suggested that a win or lose in the next rounds will be down to her and not outside forces like fate or destiny.

In a post-match press conference, Cori Gauff talked about her belief in fortune and luck. She said, “I don’t know. I don’t really believe in fate and destiny.”

The teenager also believes that one writes their own future. She continued, “I feel like you can kind of change your own world like sometimes fate can always not be a good thing, sometimes fate can be a bad thing. So I try not to think of it as my destiny or whatever.

“I feel like if I do think about it like that then my head’s going to get big,” Cori Gauff added.

Cori Gauff also indicated that she does not want to relax and keep trying harder to get the results. She said, “Plus you know I am always hearing, you’re going to do this one day, so that one day and if I kind of relax now, then that won’t happen. I try not to think of it like that”

Cori Gauff will face former world no.1, Simona Halep in the round of 16 of the Wimbledon Championships 2019 on Monday.
