“Crazy”: Rising Star Reveals Admiration for Ashleigh Barty and Bianca Andreescu Following WTA Colombi Success

On Cloud Nine after lifting her maiden Tour title in her homeland, Colombian teen tennis star Maria Camila Osorio Serrano is ready for the big league and wants to take on top stars like Ashleigh Barty and Bianca Andreescu in the women’s game.

Currently ranked 135th in singles, the 19-year-old Colombian is already setting sights on battling some of her favorites at the elite events, including the Grand Slam.

The Cucuta-born teen triumphed in three sets over Slovenian Tamara Zidansek in the final to lift the championship trophy at the Copa Colsanitas in the Colombian capital Bogota.

Maria Camila Osorio Serrano says she loves the way Ashleigh Barty plays

Speaking to reporters after her win on Sunday, a delighted Osorio Serrano said she is glad to have broken into the professional circuit and to pick up her maiden Tour title so early in her career and that too on home soil, all of which makes it all the more special.

“I just feel so happy, I want to cry so much! I really wanted to play on Tour, so I’m looking to playing all the top players. I don’t care who,” the Colombian said.

While revealing her admiration for current women’s World No.1 Ashleigh Barty and 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu, Osorio Serrano said she was keen to pit her skills against the Australian.

“I love Barty. I love her game and how she plays,” the Colombian said.

Osorio Serrano added that she has battled Andreescu before on a tennis court and also took a liking to her game. The teen added that what struck her about the Canadian, who rose to No.6 in the rankings after her runners-up finish at the Miami Open, was how she was willing to push herself for a win.

“I’ve played Bianca before, I also love the way she plays. The heart that Bianca has when she plays is crazy,” Osorio Serrano said.

She added that she demonstrated some of Andreescu’s signature traits and it helped her win the tournament.

“I think I did the same as her this week,” the Colombian said.
