Australia Plans To Go Ahead With T20 World Cup In October And November

The Coronavirus pandemic continues to bring all the sporting events around the world to a grinding halt. Events such as Indian Premier League, T20 World Cup, and others are dangling from the uncertainty thread.
ICC T20 World Cup might not take place as per the initial dates
The International Cricket Council will need to give a final decision on how the cricket events will resume once the pandemic is over. One of the first tournaments to address is the ICC T20 World Cup. The tournament’s due date is at Australia for later this year. However, now it seems to be facing adverse consequences of the COVID-19 outbreak.

The New Zealand Cricket chief, David White, has made it abundantly clear that no talks of rescheduling the World Cup is going to arise before the all the boards meet. This meeting is due during the month of July.

“Cricket Australia is working very closely with the government authorities and they are planning for it (T20 World Cup) to go ahead in October and November.”
He goes on to add that all decisions will come out to the public during July. As of now, there is no update on any changes for the upcoming World Cup. For now, White says that it is important everyone remains hopeful about the upcoming tournaments.

“We’ve all got to be open-minded about planning going forward, it’s only April. We’ve got to work together, we’ve got to be flexible … so we can accommodate these events.”
The tournament can go ahead if Australia reopens the borders
Now, Australia is under a six month lockdown to curb the Coronavirus spread. That being said, if Australia does not open the borders, then the T20 World Cup will not have a bright future. The Cricket Australia CEO, Kevin Roberts, said that the board is hoping to resume events from October but it’s still a thought in the air.
