Irfan Pathan Reveals The Comment By Javed Miandad During 2004 Indo-Pak Series That Angered His Father

Irfan Pathan is a name that every cricket fan of India knows. Whether he is spoken about at large or not, he still remains a crucial name in the Indian cricket history. His debut was during the 2003-04 Test series against Australia.

Recently, during an interview with Star Sports, Irfan Pathan revealed a particular moment. This is from the Pakistan tour of India after the 2003-2004 Australia series. The team was led by none other than Sourav Ganguly.

Now, during the tour Irfan Pathan put up an excellent showcase of deliveries. Each of his swings and throws took the Pakistan batsmen by surprise. In fact, this was during this time that everyone realised he is a strong player within the Indian team.

However, the then Pakistan coach, Javed Miandad, made a controversial statement. It was a rather negative remark to be made by a coach for a newcomer. Nevertheless, the comment was made and Irfan Pathan reveals how it angered his father.

According to the veteran player, the comment was something along the lines of how every other street of Pakistan had bowlers like Irfan Pathan. As demeaning as this comment was, Pathan did not want to make an issue out of this.

Pathan’s father wanted to confront the Pakistan coach

On the other hand, his father was not among the ones to let go off this easily. Pathan reveals that his father arrived during the last game against Pakistan. Upon arrival, he said he wished to go to the Pakistan dressing room and meet the Pakistan coach. Obviously, Irfan Pathan did not let that happen.

“My father, I remember, reading that news, he didn’t like it at all. I remember in the last game as well, he came to Pakistan, he came to me and said ‘I want to go to the dressing room of Pakistan and meet Javed Miandad’ and I said ‘I don’t want you to go there’.”
