Cris Cyborg Joins Rival Bellator MMA for the Biggest Contract in Women’s Division

Cris Cyborg signed with Bellator MMA a few weeks after her release from UFC. Cris Cyborg beat Felicia Spencer in one of the best matches in the history of women’s division in UFC 240. Cris Cyborg was on the right track to face the two-division champion. Amanda Nunes to avenge her loss and get her title back.

However, a certain video that included a conversation between Cyborg and UFC president, Dana White surfaced on the internet. Dana White and Cyborg have never seen eye to eye since the beginning. To begin with, UFC had to make a separate weight class for Cyborg. UFC signed Cyborg after she tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs. That apart, according to Dana White, Cyborg often didn’t accept the fight offered by UFC such as the fight with Nunes.


The edited video by Cyborg’s team just made the whole scenario worse for Cyborg as Dana White decided to let her go from UFC. Now there were speculations that Cris would try for a UFC contract again because of Nunes’s rematch. However, Cyborg seems to have different plans for her future.

The former UFC champion, Cris Cyborg signed with UFC’s rival Bellator MMA in the biggest contract in women’s history as tweeted by the president of Bellator, Scott Coker.

Scott Coker said: “I am happy to announce that Bellator MMA has signed Cris Cyborg to the biggest contract in Women’s MMA history.”

Bellator MMA is the right place to be for Cris Cyborg. She has been champion in multiple organizations such as UFC, Strike Force and PFL. Nothing would add much to her resume than becoming a champion in Bellator MMA at the moment.

Talking about her signing with Bellator MMA, Cyborg said:

“I have a lot of girls that I want to fight at 145 lbs. I’m very happy about that. And my goal is going to be the only female fighter to holding four different major titles in same division.

Scott Coker criticized UFC for releasing Cyborg and claimed:

“The day i got the call that Cyborg is a free agent, I couldn’t believe it. A fighter of this stature to have an issue with and let her go just means there is a lack of commitment to that weight division. Luckily we won the prize.”

Now there are a lot of exciting fights for Cris Cyborg in Bellator. Bellator’s featherweight champion, Julia Budd is one of them. That apart a rematch with Leslie Smith will also be on the card. Hence signing with Bellator is a good move from Cyborg with all the misunderstandings between her and UFC management.

However, this does leave the fans with one unanswered question. who is the best women MMA fighter of all time? Amanda Nunes knocked out Cyborg in the first round to claim the title for the baddest women on the planet. That fight left the fans asking for a rematch between those two fighters. Well, it seems the rematch between Cris Cyborg and Amanda Nunes is off the table for the time being.
