Cyberpunk 2077 is already the most anticipated game of 2020, raising an insane amount of hype. A massive open-world set in a lawless futuristic society, along with endless scope for character customization, Cyberpunk deserves the hype it has been getting. The devs dropped a bomb at E3 revealing Keanu Reeves was going to be in the game. Unsurprisingly, it had fans completely losing their minds.

Along with mad hype comes an insurmountable amount of inquisitiveness about the content of the game. The devs spoke of these following points on a podcast on the German game magazine “Gamestar.”

A Reddit user, u/moraez, was kind enough to provide us with a translation of the important aspects of the interview.

Level design: Mission Unstoppable

By now, we all know Cyberpunk 2077 is going to have extremely elaborate open-world levels. But exactly how elaborate are we talking about? The developers at CD Projekt say that the improvements in level design are as big as they were from Witcher 2 to Witcher 3.

It is a known fact that developers took a huge leap in level design from Witcher 2 to Witcher 3. While Witcher 2 is more self-contained and focused around the plot, Witcher 3 allows more freedom to the player.

Cyberpunk 2077 will have around three times as many ways to complete a mission than that of Witcher 3. The developers have considered every possible thing a player can do and how the mission can still be running.

For example, if the player gets shot and instead of engaging in a fight the player runs away and buys a hamburger, the mission will continue.

Along with that, the player will be able to summon “Phantasy-RPG-like” creatures and warriors with various abilities. For example, they might have the ability to burn out another hacker.

Ever-realistic NPCs

The devs have confirmed that they plan on providing handmade routines to over a thousand NPCs, as opposed to Witcher 3. This will result in the gaming experience becoming even more realistic.

A Lawless Land

According to a developer working on quest design, there will be no rule limiting the ways how a quest has to progress. For instance, there is nothing stopping the player from talking to as many people or moving as freely as one desires while the quest is active.

The devs added that they don’t just set a quest aside and move on to the next after they are done with it. Instead, they keep playing it over and over again to find something to fix or improve.

Hand-to-Hand

The devs added that the melee combat system, as seen in the E3 trailer, was not as good as they wanted it to be. They have confirmed major improvements were made to it.

Similar to Witcher sight in the Witcher 3 DLCs, the players will have Cyberware, a cybernetic technology permanently grafted to the human body, especially the nervous system. The devs tried to improve the Witcher sight in Witcher 3, and they want to improve this element even more in Cyberpunk 2077. Cyberware will be used by players to aid them better during missions.

All hands on deck

Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the devs have to work from home. CD Projekt sent over 700 workstations to the devs around the world with Cyberpunk installed. For all we know, 700 people are working hard on the most anticipated game of the year, as we speak.
