CD Projekt RED seems to have an innovative take on the police system of 2077. Like most open-world action RPGs, Cyberpunk 2077 has its own police system. Wanted mechanisms are a critical part of these games, as they provide for a sense of realism and drama.

With Cyberpunk 2077, however, CDPR has gone overboard. Cops in Night City simply spawn around you if you commit a crime. No matter how trivial it is, cops literally require the shortest window to detect a player’s location and hunt V down.

Usually, police detection and the subsequent chase leading to an arrest takes some time. The Wanted levels need to be higher for very prompt and swift action by the police. However, in Night City, even punching an NPC can make hoards of police spawn just a few feet away.

It does not stop at that. Police come in large numbers and start shooting together, which means it is sometimes an instant kill. And because it is 2077, police are often accompanied by drones that shoot too. Before the essence of the crime can settle in the streets, police might have already delivered quick justice.

Twitter roared about this ridiculous game mechanic soon after the global launch.

The ironic part of a police chase in the game is that it does not last very long. Either you get killed instantly or you flee and they give up the chase very easily.

Cyberpunk 2077 police will shoot you for just touching

The provocation limits for the police are absolutely mindless inside Cyberpunk 2077. Something as slight as a budge will have the police shower you with bullets. Some police personnel rubber band across the streets at great speeds. Some have infinite health.

Here is another example of how little provocation is required to get shot by the police.

What was CDPR thinking with game mechanics like these? Because these surely don’t qualify as bugs or glitches. Nonetheless, the game is not losing any popularity whatsoever. For many, it is still a fun experience to play and the faith in CDPR remains optimum.

Maybe CDPR could have afforded another delay and fixed more elements before finally releasing? Who knows? We don’t.
