Cyberpunk 2077 has constantly been at the center of controversy since the turn of the year. The game has been delayed at least 4 times now since the developers needed a little more time to get things in order. Clearly, the fans have not taken this well. They tore into CD Projekt RED when a December 10 release date was announced. Now, CDPR has seemingly reaffirmed to fans that they plan to stick to their new release date.

Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter image change reassures December release

Fans noticed that the official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account has changed its cover image. The image now includes ‘December 10’ in it. This seems like a reassurance to the fans that CDPR will stick to its promised release date this time. Although, they have become something of a contemporary rendition of the ‘boy who cried wolf’ more than once now. Hence, fans will still take this with a grain of salt.

The developers needed more time to get the game ready for other platforms, hence the delay. According to the statement provided, the game had gone Gold, but it was only ready for PC. Obviously, they faced heavy backlash for this decision and had to bear the brunt of angry fans.

Although, things crossed the line when a few fans sent death threats to the developers. That was simply unacceptable and CDPR rightfully took necessary action against the perpetrators. A certain dev also showed the extent of death threats he had received which was tough to read.

Additionally, CD Projekt RED was already under heavy fire when reports of a mandatory crunch surfaced. They even defended the idea of crunch before the launch of a game, but the whole scenario backfired as they announced another delay following that. Some fans had already suggested that they don’t want the game to be released at the cost of developers having to work overtime.

Furthermore, Game Awards host Geoff Keighley announced that CP 2077 will not be eligible for this year’s GOTY award. For a game that was pegged as a potential GOTY candidate when it was announced, it is a huge loss. Hopefully, they will stick to their December release date this time and will not disappoint the fans again.
