Dana White Awards 5 New Fighters With UFC Contracts After Dana White’s Contender Series

The first week of DWCS Season 5 took place Tuesday night at the UFC APEX. Eight competitors battled for UFC roster slots in front of UFC president Dana White and matchmakers Sean Shelby and Mick Maynard. White seemed extremely impressed overall with the fights and handed contracts to both winners and losers of the DWCS bout. “The matchmaking on this show was f****** excellent,” said White. It was Dana White’s first five contract night following a four-fight season opener.

Dana White was delighted by their performance and expressed his appreciation for both fighters by awarding contracts to Carlos Candelario and Victor Altamirano. This is the first time Dana offered contracts to both the winners and losers of a fight.

Results after DWCS Season 5 week 1

Azamat Murzakanov earned his spot at the UFC by defeating Matheus Scheffe via TKO within three minutes of the fight. Dana White was impressed by his performance and says he would be an “absolute savage” if he cut weight.

Diego Lopes vs. Joanderson Brito concluded in an unexpected manner, with Brito winning on a technical decision after inadvertently poking Lopes in the eye, severely impairing Lopes’ ability to continue. Both fighters impressed White. Dana thinks Brito is “extremely talented” and could be “one of the next great Brazilian fighters.”

AJ Fletcher secured a contract after knocking out Leonardo Damiani by landing a perfect flying knee to finish it off.  Dana White, like everybody else, was blown away by the clean and beautiful takedown, that was certain to land him a contract for season 5.

After the first week of DWS 37, Dana White had a lot to offer the contenders and was extremely generous in handing out contracts post-event. All of the contenders put on a great show, impressing matchmakers, fans, as well as the UFC president.
