Leon Edwards will fight Belal Muhammad this weekend in the main event of a UFC Fight Night event. Edwards is currently on an 8-fight winning streak in the welterweight division, which is the second-most, only behind champion Kamaru Usman. ‘Rocky’ is looking to book a shot at the UFC gold by having a statement win against Muhammad this weekend.

The British welterweight has been inactive for a considerable amount of time now. He last fought Rafael dos Anjos in 2019. ‘Rocky’ was booked to fight Khamzat Chimaev on multiple occasions in the past few months. But all those attempts were unsuccessful due to health issues on both sides.

But Edwards is healthy and fit to go again. Muhammad fought Dhiego Lima at UFC 258 last month. He took the opportunity to fight Edwards on short notice and will certainly look to make the most of that. But ‘Rocky’ is a top of the food chain contender in the 170lbs division of the UFC. So, ‘Remember The Name’ will have his hands full.

While speaking to BT Sport, UFC President Dana White was asked whether Edwards will get a title shot, given he puts on a show against Muhammad this weekend. To which the UFC President replied, “One hundred percent.” So, all Edwards needs to do now is to go out and perform to his full potential and put his whole arsenal of skills on display.

How does Leon Edwards match up against Belal Muhammad?

Edwards is a fighter with a complete skill set. He has great striking accompanied with respectable grappling. But Muhammad is a very good pressure fighter. He tends to stay in his opponent’s face all the time and make them deviate from their normal game.

Also, the Octagon inactivity can be a factor for Edwards. Since the surge of COVID, the experience has been very different for the fighters. There are no fans in the arena. And the event this weekend will take place inside the smaller Octagons of UFC APEX. This can be a cause of concern for Edwards as he is not accustomed to fighting in smaller cages.

How Edwards adjusts to those issues remains to be seen. But the stakes will be high for him as White has already revealed that ‘Rocky‘ might get a title shot next.
