Later on, in the practice session of the British Grand Prix, Ricciardo finished 8th, behind teammate Nico Hulkenberg. Meanwhile, Red Bull topped the time sheets in FP1, though it was not Max Verstappen. Instead, to the surprise of many, it was Pierre Gasly who is trying to shake of the demons of his poor form so far this season. Verstappen himself ended the session in 3rd, sandwiching Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas.

Home hero, Lewis Hamilton was 4th, ahead of the Ferrari pair, of Charles LeClerc and Sebastian Vettel respectively. Hulkenberg, meanwhile, was best of the rest ahead of Daniel Ricciardo, Alexander Albon and Carlos Sainz Jr.
