Daniil Medvedev Continues Winning Streak at Western & Southern Open as He Shines Brighter Than Ever

The 2019 Western and Southern Open Champion, Daniil Medvedev, cruised past Aljaz Bedene in the round of 16. The current number 5 took the match with ease without facing many worries from his Slovenian foe.

Bedene served first and his strong forehand along with a couple of aces took the first game point from Medvedev. However, Medvedev soon got it to 2-1. Bedene stuck to his immense speed and power.

However, it fell short as far as mounting a proper challenge was concerned. Bedene had the opportunity to make it 3-3. But he failed and Medvedev led 4-2.

Bedene served for his third game point of the match. Daniil Medvedev rallied well and took it to deuce. Bedene, however, struck back and capitalized the advantage, making it 4-3. Medvedev broke Bedene’s service to take the set 6-3.

The match had everything but a drama in it. However, that too came in the second set. Medvedev was leading the set 2-1. The game point read 40-15 in favor of the Russian.

Bedene was visibly frustrated with his game. Medvedev was growing strong against him, and he couldn’t resist the Russian’s game. Frustrated, he smashed a ball into the stands.

The ball hit the railing and got deflected and hit a cameraman nearby. The shot was purely unintentional, and he was seen apologizing for his actions. However, according to the regulations, the chair umpire had to call for the Supervisor for the violation of conduct.

The cameraman seemed perfectly alright and stated the action was an accident and purely unintentional. No action was taken against him and he was let go with a warning.

The action shook Bedene, and Medvedev capitalized to break Bedene’s serve to make it 4-1. Medvedev kept his composure intact to take the set 6-3.

Bedene was no match against the Russian. However, he did flash his brilliance across the court a few times. He does have the talent required to beat the seeded players and even clinch the title.

However, he needs to brush up his game and focus on improving his errors. Though he looked pretty solid with his forehand, 28 unforced errors led him to lose points, set and eventually the match.
