The defending champion, Rafael Nadal and eighth seed, Daniil Medvedev set up a final clash at the Montreal Open 2019 on Sunday. The two will meet each other for the first time in their career with Nadal aiming to defend his first non-clay title and Medvedev bidding for his first ATP Masters 1000 title.

Daniil Medvedev feels that Nadal does not have an advantage of playing one less match than him. The Russian said in an interview, “Actually not sure it’s an advantage because he had to wait all the day for his match, and probably it was late, so he didn’t practice after. I don’t know. It’s better to ask him this question. But I don’t find it at all as an advantage.”

Daniil Medvedev also warned Rafael Nadal ahead of their match as he suggested that it will not be easy for the Spaniard. He explained, “I’m playing very well right now. I believe if I am able to play like this, it’s not going to be easy for Rafa. It’s going to be a big battle. I’m hoping that I can pull it out.”

The Russian also suggested that there always is some extra pressure to play against the Big Three. “Yeah, of course, it’s extra special,” he said. “I played Novak and Roger a few times, both of them already. It’s different, I have to say. Yeah, there is some extra pressure.”

Daniil Medvedev also revealed that he didn’t expect himself to reach this far and play against the ‘Big Three’ in the finals of an ATP Masters 1000 event. “I would never expect to play against them, especially in the finals of a Masters 1000. I won’t be intimidated. I want to win every match I play. Every match I play I want to win. Hopefully, I can do it tomorrow,” the 33-year-old concluded.
