After a lot of speculation, the rising young sensation, Daniil Medvedev withdraws from Moscow River Cup 2019 two days after his title at the Shanghai Rolex Masters 2019. On the other hand, Kei Nishikori has also pulled out of the 2019 Erste Bank Open in Vienna due to an elbow injury.

Daniil Medvedev is forced to pull out of the ATP 250 tournament at his home as he couldn’t recover from the last 11 week’s hard work. The 23-year-old, who ha played six finals in a row, explained that he needs to breathe and did not wish to take any risk to compromise the final part of the season with the Rolex Paris Cup 2019, the 2019 ATP Finals and the Davis Cup.

Daniil Medvedev said in a press conference Tuesday, “As a professional, I can’t afford stepping on the court if I’m not 100% ready.”

The defending semifinalist, Daniil Medvedev will be replaced by lucky loser Nikola Milijevic, who will receive a bye in the first round and will play against the winner between Alibek Kachmazov and Alen Avidzba.

Talking about reaching six consecutive finals on the ATP Tour, Daniil Medvedev had said: “I would not believe it. It’s something outrageous that I’ve done in the past few months and I have been working for it. But it is how it is, I just take it and I hope I’m going to do much more.”

While Kei Nishikori, who has not competed since the US Open 2019 has still not recovered from his shoulder injury as he withdrew from the Vienna Open 2019.

However, the tournament director of the ATP 250 event in Vienna, Herwig Straka has confirmed that the Japanese will play at the Erste Bank Open in 2020. Kei Nishikori will be replaced by the American Sam Querrey in the Vienna Open 2019 draw.
