David Haggerty Wants Gerard Pique and Roger Federer to Sort Out Their Differences

The president of the International Tennis Federation (ITF), David Haggerty wants Gerard Pique and Roger Federer to come together and talk out their differences regarding the Davis Cup.

Spanish football star, Gerard Pique, who is also the founder and President of investment group Kosmos has invested heavily in the Davis Cup and has transformed the 119-year-old prestigious tournament.

The top two players in the world, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal has already confirmed their participation at the Davis Cup 2019 finals in Madrid for their respective nations. However, Roger Federer has rebuffed the revamped Davis Cup.

Gerard Pique suggested that he is in talks with the 20-time Grand Slam champion to get him to join the competition next year. However, the Swiss maestro denied any such talks with the Barcelona footballer, insisting he has never made contact with Pique.

Nevertheless, David Haggerty has urged the two legends to have a conversation and air out differences between them.

“One thing to remember about Roger, who is a great person, a fantastic player, one of the best, if not the best in history, is that Switzerland did not qualify for the Finals,” David Haggerty told EFE agency.

The ITF President further explained that Switzerland did not qualify for the Davis Cup 2019 finals in Madrid in November and clarified that Switzerland is not qualified because Roger Federer is not participating but because they have not been able to qualify.

He further added: “So Switzerland is not because Roger does not want to, but because he has not qualified.”

“I know both, both Roger and Gerard and they are both good people. If they got together and chatted for a while they would see that they have a lot in common,” David Haggerty concluded.

Only time will tell if Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic sort things out and come to a sensible end as suggested by the president of ITF, David Haggerty.
