Roberto Carlos’s Delhi Dynamos have completed their fifth foreign signing for this edition of Indian Super League with the signing of Florent Malouda from French Ligue 1 club FC Metz.

At the age of 35, Florent Malouda became the second oldest foreign player to don the Dynamos Jersey after Roberto Carlos himself.

The ex-French International represented the ‘Les Bleus’ a total of 80 times, hitting the net 9 times.

Malouda, the ex-Chelsea attacking midfielder represented 6 Clubs across the European continent before joining the ISL side. He has represented clubs in France, England and Turkey before coming to India for the second edition of Indian Football Edition of the Premier League.

With the signing of Robin Singh in the ISL Auctions and re-signing Hans Mulder and Gustavo Dos Santos from the previous edition, Roberto Carlos might use Florent Malouda in a very Central Position, as a role of the playmaker using all his experience playing in some of the top clubs and leagues in the world.

We at Essential Sports believe that Malouda might also don the captain’s arm band in a majority of games in the absence of Roberto Carlos, who might be in the role of coach than a player.

Having a wealth of experience and amazing footwork at his disposal, Indian football fans can hope to see a lot of assists and at-least 4-5 goals this season from Malouda.

Signing Rating: 3/5

Final Verdict: A Great Signing. Delhi fans will hope that Malouda brings back his form he showed at his spell with Chelsea.

Although Malouda has struggled to play at FC Metz recently, new hope and meticulous inspiration from the Brazilian Legend Carlos might up his ante. But the humid conditions in the beginning might hinder his growth.

A signing of Malouda’s quality is definitely a step forward for Indian football. Hopefully, we will see a lot more such names in the country in the future.
