Away from the six NBA championships that he won, basketball legend Michael Jordan was one of the most influential fashion icons of the 90s. Though he is not known for his style now as he was then, he is credited for promoting some trendy fashion choices back in the day. One would even expect some of his clothing style to rub off on his NASCAR co-owner partner Denny Hamlin. But that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Denny Hamlin appears in Nashville with poor wardrobe choices

For Thursday’s event at the Nashville Music City Centre, Joe Gibbs Racing star Denny Hamlin arrived along with his partner Jordan Fish. Though the couple had faced a rift in their relationship earlier, they attended together again, to the joy of many of their fans. In 2023, Hamlin made it as far as the Round of 8 but faced defeat at the hands of the champion Ryan Blaney at Martinsville and couldn’t make it to the Championship 4. Regardless, he was one of the drivers who were invited to be a part of the prestigious award ceremony.

But what caught the eye of fans on the red carpet was his weird choice of footwear. Sporting a full-on suit, he wore a pair of sneakers to go along with it.

The result of the endless reasons that Hamlin keeps providing his haters

Reactions have been pouring in from all sides in response to Denny Hamlin’s attire. One fan wrote under the NBC reporter Dustin Long’s post, “Gomer Pyle found a date?”. Gomer Pyle was a not-too-smart fictional character who appeared on The Andy Griffith Show. Though Hamlin’s costume and what Gomer Pyle wears on the show aren’t too similar, we can see a resemblance in the idea conveyed.

Another fan reacted, “Denny looks like a nerd”, as the combination of suit and sneakers continued irking fans. One wrote, “The Jordan’s with a suit is one of the worst clothing choices someone can make. Makes the whole thing tacky AF. Par the course for Dennis.” One more followed along similar lines with a strong question, “Sneakers?? What happened to your shoes?”

The comparison with fictional characters wasn’t done yet as one follower jeered, drawing a comparison to the iconic character of the late actor Paul Reubens, “Looks like PeeWee Herman in that suit”.

Apart from the laughs of the fans though, Denny Hamlin is recovering from an arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder that he got done on November 22. The surgery was successful and not race-related. Although, he revealed to the media in Nashville that it would take longer than anticipated for him to recover. Hopefully, his recovery goes well and he can make it to “The Clash” at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum.
