Manchester United winger Angel di Maria has dismissed all speculation about his departure from the Red Devils, saying that he wants to prove his worth to the fans and the club.

Di Maria was left out of Louis van Gaal’s squad towards the end of the season, and therefore was heavily linked to a move away from United, with clubs like PSG, Bayern Munich and even Barcelona interested in him. The Argentine winger was signed for a British record fee of £59.7m from Real Madrid after he helped the Blancos win their 10th Champions League title.

When di Maria arrived at United, he was hailed as the new Cristiano Ronaldo for the Red Devils and was given the no. 7 jersey. But di Maria has been far from his best, as he suffered from an injury and has not been able to cope up with the fast nature of the Premier League. The 27-year old played second choice to Juan Mata and Ashley Young as he did not start a game under van Gaal since the 4th of March in the Premier League. Despite all this, di Maria still managed to score three goals and provided 11 assists in the league in his first season at the club.

The fact that di Maria was overlooked by Louis van Gaal for his team selection caused speculation that he might leave United for a club where he is assured of more first team action.

When asked if he felt uncomfortable in Manchester, he told Ole: “Yes. For me, and my family. Because not everything goes as I want, because I don’t play. Because I came with an intention and end up on the bench. It’s hard to tell how I feel there.”

“I started well, with goals and assists. I was having a good time until I was out. It’s a little hard to explain why I do not play.”

But di Maria has dismissed all the rumours surrounding him about leaving United and said that he wants to prove himself to the Old Trafford faithful.

“No [I will not leave], because I’m not thinking like that. In Madrid there were times when I was whistled around the stadium but faced it and then it turned around. I like to deal with things.”

Angel di Maria knows that it won’t be easy to get into the Unitedd starting XI, with Memphis Depay also coming into the squad. But di Maria is keen to stay at United and will be hoping that he is able to silence his critics by performing well in the upcoming season.
