Diablo is a title that old-school gamers, as well as new-gen ones, know very well. The iconic Arena RPG franchise used to dominate the video game community back in the day. Over the years, the franchise has stuck to its original visual style and 2D graphics, to maintain the old-school feel. However, looks like Blizzard is ready for an upgrade.

Yesterday, at this year’s Blizzcon, Blizzard revealed its announcement trailer for the much-awaited D2 remake. Much to the surprise of fans, Diablo 2: Resurrected features a significant upgrade from the previous titles, as far as visuals are concerned. As opposed to the previous titles of the franchise, Resurrected features 3D graphics, turning things up a notch.

Diablo chief Rod Fergusson says, “Diablo 2 is a very important game to Blizzard… It helped define the ARPG genre. It was the 20th anniversary of the game last year, Blizzard’s 30th anniversary now, and as we’re getting ready for Diablo Immortal and Diablo 4. It feels like a great moment to bring this game back.”

Resurrected allows you to experience Diablo like never before

Blizzard has made sure that our journey to hell is as good as it can get. With these new graphics, the gameplay experience will be a real game-changer for the franchise. The graphics will support 4K and high refresh rates like 144 Hz. However, at the core, it is the same old game that you love.

This Diablo 2 remake uses Blizzard’s 3D engine. But beneath all that, Resurrected runs on the code of the original title. This means that all the gameplay mechanics work as they did in the original D2. And yes, that includes all the community exploits. Basically, it is the same old Diablo, with a bit more visually pleasing bloodbath.

In addition to this, the devs have made a few new quality of life additions to the title. They have added a shared item stash for all your characters, enabling auto-loot. However, all the QoL changes can be turned off, and players can play the game exactly the way they want to.

With the ARPG genre almost dying, Resurrected just made a major boost to the franchise as well as the genre as a whole. Resurrected will hit the stores sometime this year.
