American tennis star Coco Gauff started her campaign at the US Open with a stunning victory. She defeated Leolia Jeanjean of France in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. In a 79-minute long match, Gauff was well in control and hardly gave any chance to her opponent. The 18-year-old had plans to watch Serena Williams play her first-round match on television. However, she later decided to stay and watch it in the stadium.

Interacting with the reporters after her first-round win, Gauff explained the reason behind the same.
What made Coco Gauff change her mind?
In the post-match press conference, a reporter asked the reason for the change in her plans. Replying to which Gauff said, “I have been coming to the US Open since I was eight years old, every year, haven’t missed a year. Went from watching to playing, which is cool. We only really came to see Serena or Venus, to be honest.”
She further went ahead and disclosed a few unknown information about her childhood and the importance of Venus and Serena in it. She said, “As a kid, I didn’t care. I know it sounds bad, but I didn’t care about anyone else. So then I was like this is her final match. I feel like eight-year-old me would want to see this.”

As it turned out eventually, it wasn’t Serena’s last match. The legend registered a brilliant first-round victory and is into the second round of the US Open now.
Serena taught Gauff to never settle for less
Serena Williams is a big name in the tennis world today. The 40-year-old has 23 Grand Slam titles to her name. After playing for over two decades, the legend has finally decided to hang her racket. As the news broke out, tributes poured in from all over the world.

Gauff is also one of the biggest admirers of Serena. The 18-year-old recently spoke about an important lesson she has learned from her idol. Gauff says that Serena taught her to never settle for less and never put herself down.
