The Philadelphia 76ers are smooth sailing through the season and are having no trouble maintaining their third-place standing in the Eastern Conference. Philly’s young star Tyrese Maxey has been a huge part of this success and there is a lot of credit to be given to the massive improvement we have seen from him this season in particular. His playmaking numbers have increased his on-ball opportunities; the young guard is patient but moves with efficiency, decisiveness, and explosiveness.

We can also notice that Tyrese has become more aggressive in his pursuit of going after contact and finishing through it. This aggression, as Tyrese puts it, was almost non-existent, especially in his second year with the Sixers, and we now know why.

Tyrese held himself back due to big stars on the team
After having a good rookie season, Tyrese’s second year was a total shift in gear, as per his account in a recent interview with NBA Insider Shams Charania. He got more minutes as compared to his rookie season and was thrown into a pool of talents like Harden, Embiid, and other big stars, which he claims was all still a shock to him. However, he adds, “I was ready for it but it was still like, you know, I didn’t want to step on anybody’s toes, I didn’t want to try to be over-aggressive,” In this way, he was quite reserved as compared to the present Tyrese we are seeing, who has transformed into a beast.

However, Tyrese does admit that teammate Joel Embiid was the one who pushed him to be more aggressive without reservation. That season, he averaged 17.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 4.3 assists, which were all huge leaps from his rookie year. His minutes also increased to 35.3 minutes per game, compared to his first year’s 15.3 mpg. This season, Tyrese says he is ready to leave an impression.

Tyrese admits that he has been preparing hard
Tyrese Maxey has switched it up this season and asserts that he is “100% ready.” He is not holding back the hard-earned aggression. This time around, the Sixers’ guard says that he is not hesitant and that he has been preparing for this season. “I prepared in the summertime when nobody was watching,” Tyrese says.

His preparation is reflected in his stats, which show career-high averages of 26.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 6.6 assists. This is a player who is consistently improving every season and the road is long but if he keeps up this consistency, Tyrese might see himself on the All-Star list not too long from now.
