Argentine Diego Schwartzman has been playing some amazing tennis recently as he reached the finals of ATP Cologne 2. He was coming into the Vienna Open as a potential winner but unfortunately, fans will not see that happen, as he just pulled out of the event this week.

The reason for Diego’s withdrawal is unknown. However, it is most likely because the ATP Cologne 2 just got over yesterday and it made traveling to Austria very difficult.

Unfortunately for Diego, this decision has a price: Matteo Berrettini, Gael Monfils, and Denis Shapovalov will have the chance to overtake Schwartzman in the rankings. This will certainly hurt the Argentine as the ATP Finals is getting closer.

Diego Schwartzman has had an amazing 2020 tennis season. He reached the final of the Italian Open, the semi-final of the French Open, and the final in Cologne. These great runs helped him get into the Top 10 but he needs to be in the top 8 to qualify for the ATP Finals.

He is currently the World No. 9 and is less than 200 points behind Andrey Rublev. A win in Vienna could have put him ahead but the schedule just did not work for him. Now, he might go further down in the rankings if players like Berrettini win in Vienna.

There is, however, one event that will solve all of Diego’s problems – the Paris Masters. If he wins that event, he will go past all the other players to qualify for the ATP Finals.

It will be very tough for the Argentine as many of the top players like Rafael Nadal are returning to play that event. However, he has been in incredible form throughout 2020 and we can expect him to win his first Masters title when he steps on the court in November.
