The Serbian ‘’Resurged King’, Novak Djokovic, is refusing to put an end to his winning streak. The Serb will be 35 points away from the World Number one, Rafael Nadal if he defends his fourth Shanghai Open title. Last year, Djokovic called off the tennis season due to his elbow injury. And this year at Australian Open, he exited from the round-of-16 loss to the South Korean, Chung Hyeon. At the Roland Garros Djokovic suffered a quarterfinal loss to Italy’s Marco Cecchinato.

Nevertheless, from the beginning of the second half of this year’s tennis season, the maestro is at the apex of his tennis. Djokovic had decided to stay out from the grass-court season. However, he landed up playing one of the best matches of his career against Nadal in the semifinals and also clinched the title. In addition to that, he also had a successful hard-court tenure by seizing the Cincinnati Masters and the US Open.

Djokovic has avenged his 2017 Rome final loss from the German lad, Alexander Zverev. He swept aside the 21-year-old 6-2 6-1 within an hour. Also, with that, he extended his unbeaten streak to 17 matches. “It was a different surface,” Djokovic referred their previous match in Rome. “I wasn’t, I feel like, playing as well as I’m playing today. But also, he has improved a lot, and he has established himself as a top player. It’s going to be definitely a close match.” The Serb is revering his World Number two ranking. “Being number two after this tournament is also a great achievement, considering the first four, five months of the year and considering I had the [elbow] surgery,” said Djokovic.”Where I was about four months ago and where I am today is quite an extreme opposite. I’m just cherishing that achievement and every moment spent on the court.”

Djokovic has now embarked upon the journey to dethrone Nadal, and take the zenith position in tennis when the year concludes. The 14-time major champion will now face Borna Coric of Croatia on the finals in Shanghai. Coric dispatched Roger Federer, 6-4, 6-4 in the other semifinals of the Shanghai Masters. This was his second straight win over the Swiss and the first one being in the finals of the Halle Open. Coric once again halts Federer’s 99th career title.
