Novak got into the business from the very first Grand Slam  of the season – The Australian Open. With 4 titles already to his name, Djokovic was the favourite to win the tournament, but the unpredictable Stan Wawrinka, who beat him in the previous year final set-up a semi-final meeting. But Djokovic had different plans this time around as he beat the Swiss 7(7)-6(1), 3-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-0. In the final he defeated Andy Murray 7–6(7–5), 6–7(4–7), 6–3, 6–0, becoming the first player in the open era to win the coveted trophy for the fifth time overtaking Roger Federer and Andre Agassi.

Though the French Open evaded the Joker again, he became only the third player after his two closest rivals, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal to reach the semi-final state 5 times consecutively.

When Djokovic defeated Roger Federer in the Indian Wells final, he also equaled a record held by the very man. Djokovic now has record 4 number of Indian Wells along-side Swiss maestro.

Djokovic stormed his way to the victory in Indian Wells, winning the final against Roger Federer in 3 sets, after beating Andy Murray on route to the final. In the next tournament, the Miami Open, Novak became the first player to complete The Indian Wells-Miami sweep 3 times, with it winning his 22 Masters Title.

Masters tournaments are considered as the major tournaments after grand slams, and   Djokovic has made a mark on them too. Winning the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, Calif., the Miami Open, and the Monte-Carlo Masters, Dkokovic became the first man to win three masters 1000 tournaments – breaking another record.

Though Djokovic couldn’t complete his career slam as he was bettered by Stan Wawrinka in the final of French Open, Djokovic did achieve a rare feat of reaching the finals of all the grand slams in a calendar year. The previous were Roger Federer and Rod Laver.

With winning the Australian open for a 5 time, Djokovic broke another record. He now has the highest winning percentage on hard courts. With a mind boggling 87.70% of wins in the US open and Australian open, he is by far the master of hard courts in slams. He also has the highest win percentage in all the tournaments with 83.8%. The Serbian has a 107-15 win-lose ratio in grand-slams and (440–85) in all tournaments, making him the best player on hard court in open era.

A very interesting fact and achievement that the world number 1 achieved this year was that he now has 20+ plus wins over Nadal, Federer and Murray, a feat that only he has managed to achieve. He achieved this record when he beat Roger Federer in the final of Cincinnati Masters in straight sets 7–6(7–1), 6–3. His head to head record:

Djokovic : Federer – 21-21

Djokovic : Nadal  — 22-23

Djokovic : Murray – 20-9

Another proof of the Serbian’s dominance in the ATP masters 1000 is his yet another world record of reaching 7 different finals in a calendar year, being the only man to be able to achieve this. With this, he also became the first player to reach 6 or more ATP finals for the third time as he previously achieved the feat in 2011 and 2012 season.

The Serbian overtook Nadal’s record prize money won in a year. Djokovic has already earned a staggering US$16 million as prize money. Nadal held the record with total earnings of $14,570,935 in 2013 season. It’s not just the titles, the Serbian is also getting most of the green.

Djokovic has a special connection with China. A tournament which he really cherishes and has been very successful in. With this year’s win, he is now the only player to win the title 6 times, and while at it, made another record as he won the tournament for the 4 consecutive time this season.
