Dominic Thiem is not yet ready to return

It’s unfortunate for Thiem because he was looking forward to competing in the first Grand Slam event of the season. Sadly, he does not find himself to the required level to compete professionally. Instead, he will compete in another event in Argentina at the end of January.

He issued a statement that stated, “As you all know, I came back home to Austria to recover after the hard practice sessions I had in Dubai and the slight setback we had in preparation. I am now feeling well again, my wrist is in optimal condition and I am practicing normally with very good intensity.”

Physically, he is feeling fine. However, when he was in Dubai, he did sense discomfort in his actions that have made him take this decision. Therefore, he sat down with his team and they took this decision in the best interests of the US Open 2020 champion.
