Dominic Thiem Reveals The WhatsApp Group Amongst Top Players

The Austrian tennis player Dominic Thiem revealed the ‘WhatsApp Group’ which exists created amongst the top-notch tennis players. He divulged that during the Laver Cup 2019 they created a ‘Team Europe Group’ on WhatsApp.

“We have a Laver Cup Group, which is certainly the most famous. The numbers that are in there, many people would like (Laughs). Mostly, we have meetings in order to do a bit of strategy building for Team Europe. After good games, congratulations or condolences for bad, depending on the situation,” Thiem told Socrates Magazin.

Team Europe participants for 2019 were Roger FedererRafael NadalDominic ThiemAlexander ZverevStefanos Tsitsipas, and Fabio Fognini. Team Europe was led by Bjorn Borg.

During the Laver Cup 2019, Federer lauded Thiem’s gentle attitude.

World Number four Thiem further spoke about his friends on the professional tour. His compatriot, Dennis Novak who is presently ranked 109 in the world is one of his closest mates on the ATP circuit. He also mentioned his doubles partners Schwartzman and Struff as his close tennis companions. 

“Dennis Novak will soon be in the top 100 and is one of my best friends, it will stay that way. The same applies to Diego Schwartzman or Jan-Lennard Struff. But we’re so professional on the field that we can fade it out,” he said.

Dominic Thiem is one of the congenial tennis players on the professional tour. An Austrian wheelchair tennis player Nico Langmann once spoke about the pleasant side of the humble tennis player Thiem.

“After his Roland Garros semifinal in 2016, I congratulated Dominic by a text message. One minute later, I received a voice message, asking how I was doing and how my tournaments were going,” Langmann said.

“I thought: ‘Wow, he has just become number 7 in the world and has nothing better to do than ask how I’m doing?’ It shows who Dominic is, he is incredibly friendly. Whenever we are in Vienna, we hang out together,” Langmann added.

Dominic Thiem will be missing the ATP Cup 2019 in the first week of January. Instead, he’ll be seen on the courts of Doha and later at the Australian Open 2019.
