Dominic Thiem Stuns Roger Federer in Mutua Madrid Open 2019 Quarterfinals

After his dramatic victory against Gael Monfils, the World Number three, Roger Federer takes on the new generation contender, Dominic Thiem in the quarterfinals of the Mutua Madrid Open 2019. Thiem defeated the Monte Carlo champion Fabio Fognini in the previous round.

Yesterday Roger Federer saved two match points against Monfils and then pulled off his victory. And today, Dominic Thiem saves two match points against Federer in the second set tiebreaker and then seal his semifinal spot. A poignant day for Switzerland’s tennis as Belinda Bencic also lost in three sets to Simona Halep before Federer’s match.

World Number three, Federer lost 6-3, 6-7 (11-13) 4-6 to Dominic Thiem in a thrilling quarterfinal match at Mutua Madrid Open 2019 quarterfinals. The World Number five Austrian, Dominic Thiem will face the World Number one, Novak Djokovic in the semifinals in Madrid. Djokovic got a walkover in the quarterfinals due to Marin Cilic’s illness.
