French Open 2019 finalist, Dominic Thiem will skip ATP 500 event in Halle which is scheduled to start from 17th June. After playing the last edition of the event, Dominic Thiem has decided to take it differently from the past year in a build-up to the Wimbledon Championships 2019.
Dominic Thiem said in a statement on skipping the Gerry Weber Open 2019, Halle, “I want to do things differently this year in the build-up to Wimbledon. It was a mess last year, this time I have to avoid the mistakes I did.”

The Austrian was stunned by Yuichi Sugita 6-2, 7-5 in the second round of the Halle Open 2018 after he defeated Mikhail Youzhny 7-6, 6-2 in the first round. Last year, Dominic Thiem had quit the Wimbledon opener against Marcos Baghdatis after losing the first two sets and trailing in the third with a break of serve. He was 6-4, 7-5, 2-0 down when he pulled out of the match.
Dominic Thiem was the runner-up of the Roland Garros 2018 as he entered the Wimbledon Championships as the top contenders to reach the last stages of the tournament. This season also he will play at the All England Club after losing against Rafael Nadal 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 in a repeat final of the French Open 2018.
It looks like the world no. 4 does not want to repeat the same mistakes that he made in the last season as he gives some rest to his body before entering the Wimbledon Championships 2019. The Roland Garros 2019 was a tiring one for the Austrian as he played long matches in 3 consecutive days. He will take a precautionary rest before the Wimbledon as he aims to enter the third grand slam of the season with a fresh mind.
It will be interesting to see how Dominic Thiem performs in the 142nd edition of Wimbledon. He reached the 4th round of the Wimbledon 2017, which is his best performance at the All England Club.
