After much back and forth on social media, UFC finally made Jon Jones vs. Dominick Reyes official for the UFC light heavyweight championship. The fight will take place on Feb 8. inside the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas at UFC 247.

Reyes called for a title shot against the current light heavyweight champion Jon Jones after a thrilling first-round knockout against former middleweight champion, Chris Weidman. Jones last competed inside the octagon in July at UFC 239, where he successfully defended his championship belt against Thiago Santos. While Reyes is #4 light heavyweight contender of the world and is undefeated in his MMA career, Jon Jones is the undisputed king of the light heavyweight division. He has not only defeated former champions like Daniel Cormier, Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans, and Quinton Jackson but hasn’t lost a single match since 2009.

When Schaub credited Jones as the greatest of all time and compared his decision making within the MMA division as something similar to Floyd Mayweather in boxing, Reyes smiled with a difference of opinion. He claimed that Jon Jones is in more pressure than him going into the title fight. In the interview, Reyes attached the usage of PED with a lack of courage inside the fighter and targeted Jones for building his strength through drugs.

“I think it’s a lot of pressure. I think the pressure is getting more for Jon.”

Reyes also commented about Jones’ performance against Ovince Saint Preux for the interim UFC light heavyweight championship at UFC 197 and called it ordinary. Reyes credited PED with Jones’ incredible performances and added that a clean Jones, who will be fighting him in February, is much more in pressure and much less in strength.

“I think this is arguably, maybe the longest he has gone, not on some kind of PED. In my opinion, why people get on PED, is because they are lacking something within themselves, mentally. So that strength he gained from PED is no longer there.”  Reyes claimed.

Will Jon Jones finally suffer his first loss?

Dominick Reyes is supremely talented, relatively large, and an athletic light heavyweight who stands at six feet, and can give serious trouble to Jones. He has notable wins against Weidman, Ovince Saint Preux, Jared Cannonier.
