Brazil star Douglas Costa will be missing his country’s next and last group game against Serbia due to a thigh injury. According to team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar, the Juventus man will not recover in time for the clutch game on Wednesday.

The former Bayern Munich player has hurt his right thigh during training. Speaking to the media during a press conference, Lasmar said,” “Yesterday, at the end of the game, Douglas Costa complained of pain in the back of his right thigh, only remembering that he was injured, but in the left thigh. It’s been diagnosed as a small muscle injury, so he will not travel with us. He will stay in Sochi.”

It is worth noting that Costa had a huge impact in the Costa Rica game and was instrumental in Brazil winning the game 2-0. He even set up Neymar’s 97th minute goal and as such, will be hugely missed. Willian has been extremely poor so far in the tournament but will have to step up his game in the last match.

Of course, it is expected that Costa will return sooner rather than later. His injury is more serious than the one Danilo suffered but we are likely to see him back in action at some point in the World Cup. Brazil’s manager Tite also picked up a shoulder strain following his celebrations after Coutinho’s goal in the Costa Rica game but he will be present on the touchline in Moscow.

Brazil have collected 4 points from 2 games so far. A win against Serbia would ensure that they finished top of the group and take on Germany in the Round of 16. Keep watching this space for more updates.
