Dr Disrespect not happy with ‘esports’

Doc is drawing a line in the esports community. A figure as popular as he exerts a lot of influence on people. The terminology for professional gaming has not been standardized to date. Yet, players have always referred to themselves as esports professionals.

Doc, however, seems to have a problem with that. According to him, ‘professional video game player’ is the appropriate term.

The absence of athletic prowess in gaming will always conflict with it being called a sport. Yet the esports scene has been huge for some time now. Also, an enterprise, when it grows, influences mainstream media and the audience. The case is similar here as well. With the growth of the esports franchises, the tag ‘esports’ has stuck with the mainstream audience. Therefore, its usage is so popular.

Many will acknowledge the fact that terminology needs to evolve with time. We need to wait and watch how this will pan out.
