Dustin Brown Stuns Alexander Zverev at the Stuttgart Open 2019

Alexander Zverev was stunned by Dustin Brown 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 in the round of 16 of the Stuttgart Open 2019 on Thursday. The two were meeting for the first time in their career as Dustin Brown again showed his capabilities on the grass court.

Alexander Zverev was aiming for his first grass-court event title as he was seeded no. 1 at the Stuttgart Open 2019. However, his poor season continues as he was defeated in the second round of the Stuttgart Open. Alexander Zverev does not have a single top 10 win in the 2019 season.

The German rejoined with his coach, Ivan Lendl who was missing from his team during the clay season. The 8-time grand slam champion however rejoined Alexander Zverev for the grass court season after his quarterfinals defeat against Novak Djokovic at the French Open 2019.

However, Alexander Zverev still could not perform well after removing with Ivan Lendl in his first grass-court match following an instant transition from clay court tennis to grass court tennis.

Alexander Zverev earlier said that it is a pleasure to play in Germany. He continued, “I play two tournaments in Germany, which I always love doing, which for me, on a personal level, is very, very important. Stuttgart, I haven’t been here for a few years now, so this is why I have great motivation to do well and obviously also enjoy my time here.”

He was also asked whether he could reach the no. 1 ranking at the ATP leaderboards. The German replied laughingly, “At the end of this year I win all the matches I play…”

Stefanos Tsitsipas was stunned by Nicolas Jarry 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 at ATP S-Hertogenbosch. Nicolas Jarry ended Stefanos Tsitsipas’ bid for the first grass-court title on Thursday.

Stefanos Tsitsipas continued his busy schedule as he entered the Libema Open, which was his 15th tournament of the season. It certainly looked difficult for the Greek to make a quick transition from clay court to grass court.

On the other hand, Fernando Verdasco, seeded number 4th at the S-Hertogenbosch Open was also stunned by Adrian Mannarino 6-1, 3-6, 4-6 in the round of 16.
