While most initially thought this to be just a rumor, a Zenimax designer, Alex Tardiff, more or less confirmed the report.
“Not much to say about this yet, but it’s been so much fun creating a brand new engine. With how rare this kind of thing is nowadays, I feel fortunate to be at this studio while we invest heavily in our own technology.”

The new AAA title by Elder Scrolls Online developers has been in the works for a long time
Apparently, the team has been working on this for quite some time now. In an interview published in the official Xbox Magazine in 2019, Zenimax Boss Matt Firor had mentioned, “Yeah. Not a lot of people have picked up on this, but if you look on our job site you’ll see that we are accepting applications for people to work on a new engine for a new triple-A game.
“So yes, we have ideas, but we’re committed to ESO for as long as it takes.”

Additionally, the development of a new engine is another bit of good news. This only makes it easier for other studios in the Xbox family to be able to use it.

These are exciting times for Xbox fans all over the world. Xbox Studios are developing many AAA titles at this point. Maybe this time, they will be able to match (or even outdo) Sony in terms of providing great exclusives. The developers have suggested that they will release games for other platforms on a case-to-case basis. Nevertheless, this still doesn’t rule out the possibility that they might just make them exclusive titles, even if they are timed ones.
